SPLASHDOWN Festival

The Splashdown Festival is a  Cosmos Festival taking place in Asturias for all the space sciences including Astronomy, Astronautics, and Astrobiology. The third edition runs for four days from Thursday 5th July to Sunday 8th July 2018 at La Laboral in Gijon. There are conferences to workshops, exhibitions, and more. It offers space enthusiasts the opportunity to find out the latest advances in space exploration in Spanish. Some of the highlights for this edition are Mars exploration, the future of Hispasat satellites, astronomical drawing techniques, and exploration outside the Solar System.

Friday 6th July 2018

10:00 – 11:00 Live radio: “Gravity Zero”. The program on space exploration of the Asturian public radio with Miguel Martin, Pachi Poncela, and Jorge Alonso
11:00 – 12:00 Workshop: “Astronomical drawing and visual records of the night sky.”
12:15 – 13:15 Workshop: “Experiencing astronomy. A look at the sky.”
13:30 – 14:30 Workshop: “Initiation to the Sun observation.”
18:00 – 18:45 Conference 3: “The future of satellites: new applications and developments in space technology” by Manuel Julian Sansegundo
18:55 – 19:00 Presentation of the new collection of books on space exploration by Juan Ramon Gallo (Editorial Gravitaciones).
19:00 – 19:45 Conference 4: “The future of divulging is already here” by Natalia Ruiz Zelmanovitch
20:00 – 20:45 Phantom cosmonaut is a show with music, text and live image about the history of space exploration

20:00 Science-Fiction Cinema: “Blade Runner” (1982) in a remastered original version with subtitles

Sunday 8th July 2018

10:30 – 11:15 Conference 7: “Aliens in the fog” by Sergio L. Palacios
11:30 – 12:15 Conference 8: “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Solar System. Present and future of space exploration” by Santiago Perez-Hoyos.

12:30 Closing ceremony. MARS 2018 is a show on board the mission that will take us to Mars by Miquel Sureda.

Splashdown Festival events take place at La Laboral. The organization offers three types of registration: General Entry (€ 35), General Entry + Workshops (+55), Individual Workshop (€ 30).
