Gijon-Japan Cultural Encounter as commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain.
The 50th Japanese Visual Arts Exhibition in Spain 2018 will be hosted at the Antiguo Instituto Cultural Center in Gijon from Monday 28th May until Sunday 10th June. This exhibit is organized by the Friends of Europe and Art Club (CAEA), Japan International Artists Society (JIAS), and the City Council of Gijon.
There is a workshop program for Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th May covering calligraphy and origami.
Monday 28th May
18:00: Calligraphy demonstration by Mrs. Koho KURIHARA
Tuesday 29th May
17:00: Calligraphy workshop for families with children run by Mrs. Koho KURIHARA and invited Japanese artists.
18:00: Calligraphy workshop for adults over 16 years.
19:00 Origami workshop for families with children run by invited Japanese artists.
20:00 Origami workshop for adults over 16 years.
Please note the workshops are limited to 40 participants. Registration in advance is required with the Gijon Citizen Card at the Citizen Service Offices, internet or through the Citizen ATMs.

17:00: Japanese Architecture by Mr. Bumpei MAGORI, President of JIAS-CAEA.
Wednesday 30th May
20:00: Ukiyoe – The identity of Japanese aesthetics by Mr. Suhei KUDO, Director of Artistic Activities of JIAS-CAEA.
Tuesday 5th June
19:00 “Spain and Japan. Relationships through Art -when Japan opened its doors- ” by Mrs. Yayoi Kawamura, Professor of Art History at the University of Oviedo.
Wednesday 6th June
19:00 “Satori: from Gijon, a publishing house for Japan” by Editorial Satori.
