Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (CYHSY) are an American indie band, originally from Brooklyn and Philadelphia. The group, whose members met at the University of Connecticut, was formed in early 2004 and began playing in clubs in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
They are known for getting their fame through the internet without using any record company. They debuted with an album of the same name, “Clap Your Hands Say Yeah”, self-produced and self-distributed that found worldwide resonance mainly because of its promotion through the internet and the attendance at its concerts by well-known rock characters such as David Bowie or David Byrne. Such was the demand of the album that they made a second edition of it, which was considered one of the “50 most important recordings of the decade” of NPR.
In the following years, Ounsworth (leader of the band) has continued to push himself creatively, releasing 3 acclaimed additional albums (for which he wrote again all the music and lyrics) and the emission of two solo projects, with which he has traveled all over the world. All of these experiences have helped Ounsworth refine his vision for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, as the group moves into its twelfth year and the release of its fifth and perhaps best album, The Tourist.
The band returned to launch their second album Some Loud Thunder to celebrate their tenth anniversary, a celebration that will bring them to Gijon in the north of Spain.
