Explosive combination. Music lover’s paradise. A dream come true. “Once in a life”. Call it what you want, but here it is: on stage, Chuck Prophet & The Mission Express, with the very-prestigious-and-very-admired Charlie Sexton as luxury guest (that is the lead guitarist of Boby Dylan’s band since 1999 until 2002, from 2009 to 2012 and from 2013 to the present, Sexton has also released four albums in his name and produced, among others, albums by Lucinda Williams, Double Trouble and The Super Seven). In addition to having played in studio with Keith Richards and Ron Wood and turned with David Bowie.
The repertoire of the tour includes “Some Girls” of The Rolling Stones in full, on the 40th anniversary of its launch and its tour of presentation, which only happened in the United States (but not in Europe). The repertoire will include hits like “Happy”, “Honky Tonk Women”, “Tumbling Dice”, “Jumping Jack Flash”, “Satisfaction” and a song that will be performed by Prophet and Sexton (although they have played together in some specific concerts, they have never toured together: another novelty of this proposal). What more can you ask for!
“Some Girls” is one of the great milestones of the trajectory of the British, their 1978 classic that put them back on top of their game, precisely when punk cornered the dinosaurs they rebelled with an LP that showed “the Stones could achieve their old magic using flashy new tricks” (The AV Club). More on the same: “The critics claim that ‘Some Girls’ is their best record since their certified masterpiece,” Exile On Main Street “, and I’m glad to buy it” (Rolling Stone review published forty years ago ). Few beginnings of the Rolling Stones’ works are as recognizable as the first seconds of “Miss You” and few moments in their career where Keith Richards at the microphone for “Before They Make Me Run”.
This tour is part of the 20th anniversary of Houston Party and serves to recover the initiative We Used To Party, a cycle in which an artist covers an album for which they feel special admiration or that has influenced them in a major way. Just so, the veteran master of American rock, Chuck Prophet, starred in one of the best chapters of We Used To Party, with the album “London Calling” by The Clash.
Now, with “Some Girls”, and with the addition of Charlie Sexton (which has only played in Spain before as a member of Dylan’s band), we could not have a better way to pay homage to that cycle that has given so much joy.
