Metropoli Gijon is one of the highlights of the Gijon summer in Asturias in the north of Spain. This summer festival has been running for years now with more than 300.000 visitors attending last year’s edition. Metropoli Gijon is a summer festival offering music concerts, themed exhibitions, cinema, video games, market, food trucks, playgrounds and more. The event runs for 10 days from 28th June to 8th July 2018 with activities for the whole family.
Metropoli Gijon offers daily concerts from national and international bands. It caters for all tastes such as rock, indie, pop, hip-hop or electronic music. The facilities include two stages and a VIP area. The concerts include icons of the Spanish music such as Rosendo or Loquillo celebrating the 40th anniversary and international bands such as the French Rinôcérôse. Other participants for the 2018 edition include Alice and The Wonders, Mando Diao, Nat Simons, Staytons, C. Tangana, Sidecars, Sexy Zebras, Nathy Peluso, Taburete, Guadalupe Plata, Gran Cañón, Smile, Smooth, Miss Kittin, Atom Rhumba and Muchachito. The summer festival includes the 5th Asturias Tatoo Expo from 2th June to 1st July and the Comic Con from 5th to 8th July. The 2018 edition includes many special exhibits such as the Expo Potter around the Harry Potter world, the Bricks Expo for the Lego enthusiasts, and the Marvel Superheroes including Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man or Spiderman to name a few.
There are very special events included in the 2018 agenda. For instance, Harry Potter Day on Saturday 7th July around the magical world of the famous wizard. On the other hand, the famous Star Wars Parade runs Sunday 8th July morning with participants dressed in their Star Wars costumes.
Metropoli Gijon has a pavilion with approximately 60.000 square meters. There are many stalls with a wide range of products for the whole duration of the festival. The products range from food to vintage furniture, clothing, games, toys, food, collectibles and more. Stroll around and surely something will pick up your attention.
Are you feeling hungry? Don’t worry! There are several food stalls, as well as covered terraces for the hungry stomachs. They offer a wide range of food and drinks for different tastes. In addition, there are many food trucks around the premises. There are different types of cuisine such as Spanish, German, Italian, Asian, Tex-Mex or even sweet desserts for those with a sweet tooth.

The festival offers many other other activities such as a video games pavilion including virtual reality, cinema screenings, an urban gallery, a creative writing workshop, special events for kids and more. The premises are near the ethnographic museum, Muséu del Pueblu d’Asturies. There are special parking facilities for bicycles by the entrance.
